Story Time by Me

Everything changed when COVID-19 entered our lives. Because of that, my weekly lessons through SONshine Church School have been moved to a different platform. Rather than meeting in person every Wednesday, I have been creating and posting various bible stories and lessons for the kids and their families. Since I'm already embarrassing myself to a small-ish group of people via Facebook, I thought I might as well let you all enjoy my embarrassment as well. So here they are in all their glory and mediocre editing. Enjoy!

 Jesus and the Little Children

While Jesus lived here on earth, He taught people about the Kingdom of God. He had a group of men who traveled with Him called His disciples, or followers. The disciples spent many hours with Jesus, learning from Him and helping Him minister to people. Jesus also was preparing them to continue His ministry after He returned home to Heaven.

When Jesus heard that His cousin John had been arrested, He withdrew into Galilee. He left Nazareth and went and lived in Capernaum by the sea so that the prophecy of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled. From that time, Jesus began to preach. He would say, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”

Becoming Fishers of People

David and Jonathan

Long ago, a prince named Jonathan lived in Israel, where God’s people lived. Jonathan’s father Saul and his army had been at war with the Philistine people. When no one else was brave enough, a young man named David, with God’s help, fought and defeated Goliath. After this, King Saul invited David to live at the palace. David became a mighty warrior and a leader in Saul’s army.

In the third year of the reign of King Jehoiakim of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, besieged Jerusalem, and God gave him victory over the kingdom of Judah. Nebuchadnezzar then commanded his men to bring some of the Israelite youths from the nobility and the royal family to his palace. Four of those young men were named Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. You might know Daniel’s friends by other names. The king gave them new names when they came to Babylon. He renamed them Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

 Joy versus Happiness

This video is a little different from the others in that rather than focus on what it means to be a true friend, it talks about what makes us happy and what that means and how joy is different than happiness. I challenged the kids to share activities or something else that makes them happy.

In the days when the judges led God’s people, there was a woman named Naomi who had a husband and two sons. There had been no rain for a long time in the land where God’s people lived, and the people had run out of food and water. So Naomi’s husband took her and her sons away from their home to a country called Moab. The people of Moab did not believe in or serve the one true God.
